I also remember the day when I was caught and taken to jail. In those days, a communique was made by the Harijan Seva Sangh of Masharwalji wherein it was written that remove the railway track, cut the wires because we have to remove the British from India. So, at this time, we should all revolt. They had sent their signatures to all those who had branches of the species. It meant that people would cut wires, uproot railway tracks, do all this. After that, the circular reached in the hands of the police. Many People approached my wife in my absence. The officers also went and there were reports from many sides that this kind of a release may result in my "transportation", i may be sent out of country, or can be given life sentence. In that case, my wife was asked to go to jail and explain to me that I should apologize so that no such action could be taken against me.
My wife told those who met her that it was a good thing to meet once. I recollect that my wife came to meet me in jail and when the other officers were standing in the middle, she said, "Don't stay in the middle, I have to talk to him alone. I was surprised to hear, and I also got a great power. My wife said all the things whatever the officers had said her. She added, Whatever happens in life, on the path of forgiveness, there is no need to repent. Whatever suffering comes to the fore, I will take it out, and, for ever, I will take it as my good fortune. I can never forget that day and I feel that if my wife have shown weakness at that time, I would not be able to spend a year and a half in prison. The courage that my wife has ever shown in my life, from time to time, has been created by a large force, whether she is about to come to the ministry and be in the field.
